The appearance of the calyces, renal pelvis, and renal parenchyma are vital in determining the grade of hydronephrosis.
There are several grading systems:
- Descriptive (mild-moderate-severe)
- Quantitative (anteroposterior (APD) renal pelvis diameter)
- Semiquantitative (Society for Fetal Urology (SFU) grading system)
The Anteroposterior diameter (APD) measurements of the fetal renal pelvis and the Society for Fetal Urology (SFU) grade are the two of the most commonly used grading systems for ANH.
